Of course you should go with a pro over JCPenny!
I’m sure that wasn’t surprising in the least, but I want to explain WHY you’re going to be much better off going to 1 over the other.
Experience
Do you remember when you were little & your mom would drag you to JCPenny in a nice shirt, they would sit you down on those god awful blocks that were 3 different sizes? They’d take your picture, you’d look right at the camera, force a smile, and move onto the next pose.
It was impersonal. The smiles were forced, and even though JCPenny has a rap for those hilarious 80’s portraits- they lack that connection with you. It’s transactional more than personal, and that’s just not how professional photographers roll.
Quality
Yes- they have fancy strobe lights & cameras that take up the entire back of the studio. But bigger does not always equal better. The people behind the lens are wonderful people, who care about you- for $15/hour. Their knowledge on the systems they use is limited & the printing options are minimal. JCPenny has been around for so long, but they aren’t changing with the times. You’re still getting the same early 2000’s quality that they started offering 20+ years ago.
Why do I hate JCPenny?
I don’t hate them at all! JCPenny has it’s role, and they are amazing if you’re looking for:
- A quick family photo (just 1 or 2)
- An indoor setting
- 1 backdrop
- A large amount of props
